Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Lost in Cheeseland

Lindsey is a Philadelphia transplant in Paris, married to a Frenchman and a lover of baked goods. She is also the creator of Lost In Cheeseland, Musings on Food, Love, Life & Struggles in Paris, a travel-expat blog hybrid. Growing up her baking consisted mainly of taking Sara Lee's and Betsy Crocker's mixes and throwing them into the oven. Not very inventive. It wasn't until she moved to Paris that she started dabbling in the kitchen and found that she had more talent than she had imagined. She may not have a steady hand to pipe icing the way Little Miss Cupcake does (thanks Lindsey!), but she makes a mean zucchini bread! With Cupcake Camp she hopes to add cupcakes to her list of baking successes. She is honored to have been asked to be a celebrity judge and is looking forward to seeing (and tasting) some 1500 creations!

You can see what she plans on baking here! Don't those look delicious?! Yum!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Sophie

Sophie is 10-1/2 years old. She will be competing as one of our bakers under 16. Two of her favorite things in life are eating and baking. She's also passionate about animals and would like to be a veterinarian (or chef or hairdresser) one day. When she thinks about the earthquake in Haiti, she worries about all the animals.

Here she's baking up a batch of cupcakes to bring to Cupcake Camp tomorrow. No help from mom this time. When she realized that one stick of butter in France is twice the amount of one stick of butter called for in the US recipe she used, she worried that she'd have to start over. But the result is a winner and she's named them: Orange-Vanilla Butter Bombs. Isn't she a cutie? Looking forward to trying those Orange-Vanilla Butter Bombs!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Mary

Mary wrote to us: "Ever since study abroad in France all those years ago, I couldn’t wait to get back! It took some convincing but my boss finally agreed that Paris was the right place to head up our international expansion efforts, and in 2006, it finally happened: I started calling Paris home. Soon I became a proud apartment owner and now I'm all growns up! And no, Mom, I'm not moving back to the states this year…With all of Paris' quirks and special traditions and misspelled English menus and opportunities to observe (and practice) the art of seduction, I’m just getting started here! In addition to cupcakes, macarons and the things that diabetics should avoid, I am also obsessed with photos, Twitter, music festivals, books by David Sedaris, yoga, open air markets, and travel." After following you for some time on Twitter, I am certainly looking forward to meeting you, Mary!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Cali Girl

Leesa writes us: "I'm a sunny So. Cali girl who has been baking since early childhood. Baking is one of my great passions in life. In fact, it's really an addiction, so I bake and give them away to anyone and everyone. This has helped me to make many friends all over France! Cupcakes are just one of the things I love to bake and it's something that everyone seems to L-O-V-E!"

I met Leesa online last year and it took us about 10 months of back and forth emails before we were finally able to get together! When we met, we decided to exchange cupcakes and I still think with great fondness of Leesa's Chocolate-Cherry Cupcakes -- so so good! I'm looking forward to seeing what Leesa brings us on the 4th but thank her in advance for agreeing to be our official Cupcake Camp Paris photographer! She is amazingly talented; you can check out some of her work on her blog. So if you see her making the rounds with her camera on Sunday, make sure to smile!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: I Love Cupcakes

I Love Cupcakes est naît !

Car restons honnêtes, difficile de rivaliser contre la pâtisserie made in France !

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: iPhood.fr

Je m'appelle Floriana. Je suis italienne, débarquée à Paris en

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Mon Ami Vie

My name is Gillian. I am an American (originally from Kentucky) living in Paris with my French partner and son and I have been baking since I could stand at the kitchen cabinets. I have a love of all things Southern, as that is where my roots are. My grandmother taught me everything that I know about baking which she learned from her mother, so, there is a long tradition. I am a designer by trade and have an online shop which highlights my designs, Mon Ami Vie that include scarves, handbags, jewelry and housewares.

My partner is in the restaurant business and we are hoping to open an American restaurant in the next few years. I am so excited to spend my Fourth of July at the Cupcake Camp!

And we are looking forward to spending it with you and your Carrot Cake cupcakes! Thanks Gillian.

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Joséphine

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Laila

I'm a Norwegian-American global citizen....born in Africa, resident of multiple continents through my youth & finally settled in the States for just enough time to enjoy the much appreciated education system, meet the love of my life, work my first job & then jet off to Paris in search of our French destiny....which has become for LIFE :) After ten years in Paris, working and living la vie Parisienne, the addition to our family of a character filled Parson-Russell Terrier led us to buy a house and property west of Paris not far from the medieval town of Le Mans (better known for it's 24-hour car race!).

Now we split our time between a studio in Paris--where we feed our foodie and cosmopolitan tendencies, and our principal residence, a 200+ year old house and grange renovation project with six acres of bucolic, zen inducing property--where we also feed our foodie tendencies, but with the new found knowledge of raw, wholesome, home-grown ingredients! Nothing surpasses the flavour where all the fresh ingredients are picked off your own land (or that of generous neighbours with eggs, cheese, milk & more!), and we are enjoying being ruined forever by the exquisite tastes we encounter. A puppy-cat (rescued kitty raised by our pup) named Josie and a terrorier (misspelling intended!) named Freya keep us running to burn off all those calories...and exploring a whole new France.

Cooking and baking since the age of, as long as I can remember, influences from my Norwegian grandmother, genetic gourmet inheritance from my Dad & a general love of anything from anywhere that tastes delicious is all it took for me to happily partake in Cupcake Camp Paris! What better way to tastily discover new inspiration for cupcake tastes to impress, flabbergast and amuse our local country neighbours and friends, who have courageously spread their wings in the world of culinary education since we arrived, dining chez la Maison M-J :)

Looking forward to finally meeting you in-person, Laila!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Severine

Miam miam!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Sabrina & Agathe

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Fabienne

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: La Petite Tartine

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Wheels and Lollipops

Sharlene of Wheels and Lollipops wrote to us: I started food blogging in March of this year as a way to share my passion for food and baking with others. One of my favorite places to be is in the kitchen, something that I inherited from my mom who shares her love for her family and friends by her cooking.I've had the opportunity to live in Trinidad and Tobago (where I'm originally from) the US (North Carolina and Atlanta, GA) and now France, with these trips I've learned about the richness of each of their baking and cooking traditions which have contributed to the foods that I make. Cupcakes and cakes have always fasincated me, I remember looking through my mom's recipes for Cupcakes and making them as surprises for my friends and family.

Now that I'm a mom of two little ones 4 and 1, I also want to pass down the knowledge and create with my own kids those special moments that I had as as child. When I heard about the Cupcake Camp I was thrilled to see that this little cake was making its mark in the French baking arena. Definitely not a professional baker, but one that loves to see that smile on someone that's presented with cupcakes.

For the celebrations, I'll be bringing variations of that special yellow cupcake as well as margarita cupcakes and maybe a chocolate one thrown in to the mix . I will be entering the All American Cupcake as well as the Summer Inspired Cupcake contests.

Thanks, Sharlene and we look forward to finally meeting you at Cupcake Camp!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Me and My RC

Jill of Me and My RC wrote to us: I am a New Yorker transplanted to Paris while 5 months pregnant with my first baby. What was meant to be a one-year stint, has turned into 4 years and counting, and I am happily learning to convert American recipes into their French equivalents. I'm a muffin person at heart, but am always happy to dial it up for a cupcake! My hubbie sourced blue poppy seeds here in France while he was going through a huge Muffin-Man phase, and les graines de coquelicots are busting out of our cupboards so we figure these can be put these to good use as cupcakes, too. I had a dream last night that I attended Cupcake Camp and somehow I ended up making glazed donuts! (I won't let that happen). Like others in my position, I have a blog about notes on living in France; I average a post about 1.5x per month :), but am certain to include Cupcake Camp.

Thanks Jill and looking forward to seeing you and your cupcakes (but donuts will be welcome too!) on the 4th!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Sylvie

Miam miam! On hate de vous retrouver le 4, Sylvie......

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Jenni Does Dessert

Jenni who hails from Boston and now working in Paris write to us: I am a US Pastry chef, studied at Cambridge School of Culinary Arts in Cambridges, MA. I worked for Crema Cafe in Cambridge, MA, and Whole Foods Market in Boston, MA before leaving to come to Paris for the summer to work as an intern at Laduree. I also write a food blog chronicling my journey through culinary school and now my adventures in Paris. I'm a serious foodie who loves baking and cooking as well, but Pastry is my passion! I thought it would be fun to participate in cupcake camp and meet some other bakers in Paris.

Read more about Jenni and her culinary adventures on her blog: Jenni Does Dessert. And look for her at Cupcake Camp on the 4th -- she'll be bringing two very US-inspired flavored cupcakes including S'mores -- my fave!
